This includes various types of cloth masks such as muslin cloth masks, microfiber cloth masks, gauze cloth masks, nano cloth masks, calico cloth masks, and disposable surgical masks. People are also advised to avoid group activities, refrain from physical contact, and keep distance from individuals who are sick, have a cold, fever, or are coughing and sneezing. Avoid entering high-risk areas as well.

Nowadays, we can see that many people are opting to use various types of face masks, especially cloth masks, which are reusable and can be washed for repeated use. However, many people still question whether cloth masks can truly protect against the coronavirus (COVID-19). This concern leads to the question: can cloth masks actually prevent COVID-19? In the current situation, the medical community has increasingly turned to using cloth or fabric masks. The Department of Medical Sciences has clarified that cloth masks can help prevent COVID-19 and even recommended them as an alternative for the general public who are at lower risk compared to healthcare workers. That said, the effectiveness of cloth masks in preventing virus transmission depends greatly on the type of fabric used. The fabric must meet several key criteria to be suitable for virus protection:

Additionally, there are recommended fabric types that meet these essential properties for cloth mask production, such as Nano fabric, Calico cotton, Muslin cotton, Knit fabric, Gauze fabric, and 3-layer cloth masks.

1. Muslin Cotton is made from 100% cotton fibers and typically comes in plain white, dyed, or printed floral fabric. It is commonly used for sewing inner linings of aprons, handkerchiefs, bed sheets, pillowcases, etc.
The key features of muslin cotton are its fine texture, excellent breathability, quick-drying, lightweight, and non-irritating to facial skin due to being made from 100% natural fibers. It is also strong and easy to clean. Efficiency testing has shown that muslin cotton is highly suitable for use in cloth mask production to help protect against the coronavirus (COVID-19).

2. Calico Cotton – When layered in two layers, calico cotton fabric can filter small particles effectively, offering performance that is very similar to medical-grade surgical masks. 3. Nano Fabric – Nano fabric has similar properties to muslin cotton and calico cotton. 4. Knit Fabric – Testing has shown that knit fabric masks can resist the penetration of droplets to a certain extent. However, they are not effective in filtering small particles and therefore offer limited protection.

5. Gauze Fabric – Gauze fabric offers the best resistance to droplet penetration when compared to muslin cotton. However, it is not effective in filtering small particles.
